Ballet And A Wanderer Analysis - 1658 Words
In literature, the relationships between characters are crucial to fully understanding the tone and meaning as a whole. It is through the the contrast of healthy relationships and those which seem to be toxic that a story can explore characterization. In the short stories ââ¬Å"Balletâ⬠by Pete Fromm and ââ¬Å"A Wandererâ⬠by Josip Novakovich, the relationship between characters were on the brink of destruction, which adds immense amounts of conflict to the plot and leads to their characterization and development. For example, in ââ¬Å"Balletâ⬠, the young narrator attempts to mend his parents strained relationship, due to his fatherââ¬â¢s infidelity, causing their family dynamics to be originally deemed doomed. Likewise, in ââ¬Å"A Wandererâ⬠, fourteen-year-old Nedaâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Eventually, he can no longer stand the darkness and his parents hiding their feelings within the shadows, he longs to turn on the lights which represents forcing hi s parents to talk about their issues, no longer pushing them aside. ââ¬Å"Maybe all of them, a trail of brightness clear to the ladder, almost finished porch eaves. Maybe even the Christmas treeâ⬠(Fromm 3). Just as Christ is called the light of the world, the young narrator serves as the light to his family, encouraging them to take a chance and seek mercy for their past sins. Not only is Flash forcing his parents to unearth the conflict between them but also is forcing him to become vulnerable to his father, trusting another person with his concerns and longing for their family to return to the way it was when he was a child. When Flash, ââ¬Å"turned on the headlightsâ⬠, shinning them directly on his father, it symbolized the fatherââ¬â¢s baptism and his longing to also be apart of this ââ¬Å"lightâ⬠his son believes in (Fromm 7). The father is tired of standing in the darkness and all of the pain and suffering it brings along with it. Inspired by his sonâ⠬â¢s actions, he turned on the lights of the house, symbolizing the newfound hope for the relationship between husband and wife, and the promise that ââ¬Å"things always look better in the morningâ⬠(Fromm 7). Dbs Bank Gaining the Hearts and Pockets of Singaporeans Essay Example For Students
Dbs Bank: Gaining the Hearts and Pockets of Singaporeans Essay DBS had acquired six financial institutions around the region. Incidentally, this was also the time When the bank has seen a change in leadership three times in a span of only three Singapore is known throughout the world as an economic powerhouse despite its small size. Likewise, its banking sector is known to be robust, well regulated and competently managed. In 1999, the government liberalized the banking sector and instituted reforms to free up entry to domestic wholesale banking, enhance competition in retail banking, and place safeguards needed for the industry. Foreign banks could now own more than 40% to domestic banks and ere allowed to expand operations to concrete with local banks. Local banks, on the other hand, were encouraged to consolidate their businesses to meet the challenges of international competition and global expansion. DBS played a key role in the governments strategy to expand abroad as Singapore home market for retail banking has reached saturation. Following a series of mergers and acquisitions initiated by reforms, the countrys local banks have moved up the Asian ranking lists although still falling below their counterparts in the region. Despite regional expansion, Singapore banks minded relatively small. There is pressure, therefore, for the local banks to compete with international banks. This forced banks to scrutinize their operations to improve the bottom line. DBS is strong in short-term banking facilities, trade financing and working capital financing. It also provides services related to investment banking, portfolio management, and custodian services. It is also known to have substantial banking presence in countries around the region, as well as offices in the US, UK and Japan. The banks Objective in its acquisitions was to seek out opportunities o grow its business and broaden its reach. On the downside, however, DBS has also been perceived to be bureaucratic and slow to respond. Being recognized as the De facto bank Of the Singapore government does not help in its image as it is not seen to be customer friendly, cold, inflexible and less innovative. Furthermore, the rapid changes in leadership in DBS within a very short span of time has castes doubt on whether the bank can actually compete on the world stage. Part of the major acquisitions made by DBS was that of the Post Office Savings Bank (POSS.). POSS. was modeled after the Japanese banking yester as a convenient and friendly bank- quite the opposite portrayed by the image Of DBS. It has even been called the peoples bank gaining the trust of Singapore depositors with most of them opening an account at an early age. It never discriminated customers based on the site of their hank accounts. It also rewarded loyal depositors, and the staff were always friendly, courteous and helpful. In 1 998, POSS. then became a fully commercial after its acquisition by DBS with the bottom being paramount. Despite initially seen as favorable move to strengthen DBS market leadership, here were 3 number Of changes introduced in POSS. that did not sit quite well with the depositors. DBS imposed a fee on accounts that feel below the minimum SOC maintaining balance, some branches were closed making it difficult for customers to travel to further-located and more crowded banks. There was even some fears that DBS was planning to phase out the poss. brand entirely as managers argued that it was confusing to retain both brands. Nonetheless, some argued that it would benefit DBS to keep the POSS. brand for the following reasons: 1. DBS can compete globally without having to sacrifice revering the local market. 2. It would not cost much for DBS to maintain POSS. for the small account holders. 3. DBS might stand to lose their patronage to other banks should they drop POSS., A major shift was therefore put in motion to gain back the trust of customers. .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 , .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .postImageUrl , .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 , .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000:hover , .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000:visited , .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000:active { border:0!important; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000:active , .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000 .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u078f392aa806c00437be296de9193000:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Marketing Analysis EssayFirst, DBS admitted mistakes and acknowledged that they were operating on purely logic rather than balancing it with emotion which customers were looking for in a bank.
